Mount Whitney
Sierra Watch and our local allies in the southern Sierra - SRVA: Advocates for Smart Growth - are working to protect the Owens Valley at the base of Mount Whitney. Mount Whitney, located near the town of Lone Pine in Inyo County, is the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States, and it receives heavy visitor traffic year-round. Hikers, climbers, photographers, and others enjoy the public lands that surround the "portal" to Mount Whitney.
A looming development now threatens that experience.
Luxury vacation homes would interfere with recreation and wildlife, as well as clogging the viewshed both up and downslope of Mount Whitney.

Sierra Watch is supporting SRVA in a concerted legal strategy to uphold state planning and environmental laws, and to secure a conservation-based resolution.
