Donner Summit
Donner Summit is one of the truly iconic landscapes in the Sierra Nevada, with a unique sense of place; rugged, rustic, and rural.

The Region includes the headwaters of the North Fork American, Truckee, and South Yuba rivers and, also, some of the most important old growth forest habitat in the entire Sierra.
But those irreplaceable resources are at risk of irresponsible, unacceptable development.
Land owners are proposing roughly 1,000 new resort units of development, a semi-private ski resort, and two new lakes to be situated on 3,000 acres at the crest of the Sierra. For a couple of educational and eye-opening maps of the proposed project click on MAP1 and MAP2.

Sierra Watch is partnering with Sierra Club, South Yuba River Citizens League, local residents, and our conservation allies in a long-term strategic campaign to defend Donner Summit and safeguard its future for generations to come.
